UNUSUAL MOVE
SCHOOL CLASSEOOM SHIFTED ACROSS ROAD DIFFICULT UNDERTAKING The moving of a large classroom froiij one site across the road to another location was accomplished at Ponsonbv ye s . terday in the course of additions to the Ponsonby School. The building, which was formerly attached to the section of the school on the northern side of Ponsonby Terrace, presented a difficult problem, as it had to be moved a distance of about 100 yards, this including a bank about a foot high on to the road. The height of tho building necessitated the temporary raising of several' power lines on the road, while others were cut off. The telephone lines also had to be cut and a temporary service was installed. Although there were a few anxious moments the transit tras accomplished without a hitch. The work of separating the classroom : from the building, to which- it was formerly attached was started about a fortnight ago, but the actual moving did not commence until about nine o'clock yesterday morning. The large structure, piloted by about a dozen workmen equipped with heavy jacks, was near its future resting place late 3*esterday afternoon. In ita new position the classroom is to be incorporated in a new block of? buildings for infant classes.
