FALL IN STATE DEPOSITS
BANKS' HOLDINGS RISE EXCHANGE £232,000 HIGHER [nv TELEGRAPH —'PRESS ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON, Thurs-luy , The Reserve Bank return for the week ended Monday, August" 23, was gazetted to-night. The statement is balanced at £31,522,954, or £301,766 more than at the close of the previous week. Government deposits continue the downward tendency of the past few weeks, being £268,597 lower than in the last preceding return. The holdings of tho trading banks, on the other hand, are £753,426 higher. Other demand liabilities have fallen £269,897, while tho note issue is £146,373 higher. The sterling exchange reserve is £232,091 higher in value than it was a week before. Advances to the Dairy Industry Account • have increased £126,598, while other assets arc £6114 higher.
