AUCKLAND CHAMPIONSHIPS F. PATONS SPLENDID DISPLAY l _ Tlio Auckland provincial tabic tennis ! championships wore continued last evening, exciting play being witnessed in many of the contests. The outstanding match was that between F. Pa ton, former Auckland champion, who defeated K. Cantlay, tho present New Zealand title-holder, in a close and interesting contest. Pnton's steadiness and allround science enabled him to keep Cantlay on tho defensive. Detailed results are as follows: Men's Singles.—Semi-finals: Paton beat Cantlay, Swift beat Stowell. Moil's Doubles. —Quarter-finals: Rawlinson and B'.isfield beat Pugli and Stowell, 21 —lB, 21—11, 18—21, 21—15; Cantlay and Burke beat Armstrong and Brookes, I—o, 21—17, 2J—lO; Paton and Double beat Robinson and Wood*, 21—11, 21 —ls, 21—14; Lynds and Chcal bo-.it Brown and Snntlo, 21 —5, 21.—7, 20 —22. 21—IS; Cantlay and Burke beat J. and D. Munns. 21—15, .21 —15, 17—21, 21—5. Semi-finals: Paton and Doublo beat Lynds and Chcal, 20—22, 21.—11, 21 —15, 21—10; Cantlay and Burko beat Rawlinson and Busfield, 21 —12. 21 —10, tfi—2l, 15—21, 21 —11. Ladies' Doubles.—Semi-finals: Misses Bond and Dovo boat Misses McAdarii and Wilkinson. 15 —2'., 21—10, 21 and Manson beat Misses Tanfiold and llcmus. 21 Combined Doubles. —Semi-finals: Chcal and Miss Gillies beat J. Munns and Miss Manson, 21—1.7, 21 —18; Stowell and Miss Tan field beat Cantlay and Miss Bond, 21—18, .17—21, 21—10. Tho finals in the ladies' championship siiglcs, ladies' B singles, and the C and D grade doubles will bo commenced at 7 p.m. on Monday.
