WHANGAREI COMPETITIONS [FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT! WHANGAREI, Thursday In officially opening the Whangarei Competitions Festival yesterday, the Mayor, Mr. W. Jones, congratulated the committee on the large number of entries. Ho welcomed the judges to Whangarei and felt sure the festival would bo of great educational benefit to all. The following are the results so far announced: — Reading at night.—Open: Harold Bcalo, 1; Breada liaden, 2. Boys, 8 to 10 years: Bruce Thorne, 1; John McDonald, 2. Recitation. —Boys, 10 to 13 years: John Primrose, J; Barry Neiil, 2. Operatic or toe dance.—Kae Bissit, 1; Rae Grantham, 2. Dance duo, under 12 years.—Mona and Jose Boreham, 1; Rae Bissit and Pat Mooro, *" Highland dance, under nine years.—Tul Brown, 1; Pamela Morton, 2. Hornpipe, under nine.—Tui Brown, J ; Marie Wallace, 2. Highland dance, 13 to 10 years.—Joan Cochrane, 1; Betty Barber, 2. Honiplpe, 13 to 16 years: Joan Cochrane, 1; Highland dance, nine to 12 years: John Primrose, 1; Molly O'Shea, 2. Soprano solo, open.—Mrs. T. Drunimond, 1.
