MANUREWA INTERESTS

RATES STRUCK FOR YEAR TAKANINI WATER SUPPLY A petition bearing the signatures of 80 residents in tho Takanini district requesting the Manurewa Town Board to extend its water supply scheme to meet their needs was presented by a deputation to the board this week. The petitioners stated they were prepared to pay 2s 6d a 1000 gallons and guarantee an agreed minimum consumption annually. The board decided to give tho request favourable consideration subject to consent being obtained to the raising of an extra 10 per cent on the amount of the loan for tho reticulation scheme. A motion to strike rates for the current year at 3Jd in the pound on the capital valuation of the district was adopted. It was stated that since last year a new valuation had been completed. The rates last year were 3jd in the pound. The consulting engineer, Mr. R. F. Worley, submitted a report on the renovations necessary at the board's six tennis courts. He estimated that the complete scheme, including drainage, would cost about £ooo. The board decided to offer to supply sealing material to the club leasing the courts provided it would supply the metal chips and to advise that in the event of any loan being contemplated in future for general works the renovation scheme would be included in any proposals submitted to the ratepayers. A decision to invoke the assistance of tho Government in obtaining banking facilities for the district was reached by tho board. During the depression the local receiving offices established by two banks were closed and since then the district had been without facilities of any description.
