STRANGE CONDITIONS
MAORIS FROM FAR NORTH VISIT TO WHANGAREI [from our own correspondent] WHANGAREI, Thursday With the concentration of a large number of schoolchildren at Whangarei this week for the Boiler Mills Shield for primary school Rugby teams, it is inevitable that some, particularly those Maori boys from isolated parts of the Far North, should come in contact with conditions strange to them. For instance, several who were wearing boots for the first time became so footsore after the first day that their new boots, Eurchased for the occasion, were astily scrapped. One Maori boy billeted with a private resident was thoughtfully provided with a pair of pyjamas by the ladv of the house, but the boy, seeing such garments for the first time in his life, and too shy to inquire as to their correct use, donned the pyjamas over his ordinary clothes.
