LOANS TO AERO CLUBS

Wednesday Proposals for tho allocation of Government loan aircraft to noro clubs wcro announced to-night by the Minister in charge of Aviation, tho Hon. P. .Tones. "Two machines which nrc duo to arrive in tho Dominion within tho next few days are to bo offered to the Auckland and Otago Aero Clubs," said Mr. .Tones, "and two machines which will arrive later in tho year aro to bo offered to tho Wellington and Canterbury Aero Clubs, as these clubs require machines of this type for the training of Royal Air Forco candidates. "Each of these clubs will bo required to repay tho Government the net cost of tho machines, without interest, over a period of three years, and during that time to insure the aircraft in an insurance pool to bo established by the New Zealand Aero Club for an amount at least equal to the unpaid purchase money. "The Government is prepared to order immediately four aircraft for free issue, ono each to the Middle Districts, West Coast United, Hawko's Bay and Western Federated Aero Clubs. The aircraft to bo provided will be either Tiger Moth or a similar type. "All aero clubs aro being advised that the Government is willing to place immediate orders for tho purchase of aircraft additional to those referred to above, but on conditions similar to those which have been imposed in respect of the Hawk trainers being offered to the Auckland, Wellington, Canterbury and Otago Aero Clubs." The Minister said that the proposals which ho had outlined were arrived at only after very careful consideration and he hoped aero clubs would recognise that an attempt had been made to deal with the position which had arisen in respect of Government loan aircraft in the fairest way possible. GOVERNMENT PURCHASE MR. E. CLARK'S AEROPLANE [by TELEGRAPH —OWN" correspondent] WELLINGTON. Wednesday The Porcival Gull aeroplane in which Mr. E. L. Clark, a North Canterbury farmer, Hew out from England, has been purchased by the Government, according to a statement made to-day by the Minister of Defence, the Hon. F. Jones. Mr. Jones said the machine had been acquired to facilitate inspections of air staff and trainees.
