ARRIVALS FROM SYDNEY
FIVE BOATS IN ONE WEEK LINERS TO RESUME RUNNING Bv tho return to service of the Royal Mail liner Aorangi and the Union Company's transtasinan liner Awatea New Zealand will be particularly well served with ships from Sidney for the first week in August. Five passenger vessels —three for Auckland and two for Wellington—will arrive between August 1 and 9.
The Aorangi, which was withdrawn from the Sydney-Vancouver mail service for one round trip to enable a damaged crankshaft to be replaced at Sydney, will be recommissioned on the arrival in Australia of the Monowai next week. The Monowai, brought into service on June *1 after lying idle for nearly a year, will arrive here from Vancouver on Monday morning and reach Sydney next Saturday. Monowai to be Laid Up The Monowai will leave Sydney on August .'i for Wellington, and oil her arrival there on August 6 she will pay off and he laid up. Taking up the. running of the Monowai, the Aorangi will leave Sydney on August 5 and arrive here on August 9, sailing later in continuation of her voyage to Vancouver. After maintaining the transtasinan service of tlx; Awatea sinee Alav, tho steamer Maunganui will be withdrawn after her next voyage from Sydney to Auckland. The Maunganui wdl leave Sydney on. Wednesday and arrive here at nine, o'clock next Sunday morning, an unusual day for a passenger ship to reach the port. Two days later, on August 3, tlie Awatea—which will clear Sydney next Saturday—will visit Auckland to resume her time-table. Awatea's Higher Funnels A npticeablc difference will be seen in the structure of the Awatea on her arrival at Auckland. Her funnels have been lieighted Oft. to increase efficiency and to clear her smoke from the decks. Cockatoo Dockyard, Sydney, has completed the installation of a new type of gearing on the liner, a development finalised by her builders, Viekers-Arm-sstrong, Limited, since she was placed in commission.
When the Maunganui reaches Auckland she will bo prepared for an islands cruise, to begin on August 3. 'J he steamer will be employed from October until April in tho Melbourne-South Island-Wellington service. The fifth of the influx of liners from Sydney will be tho Huddart-Parker motor-liner Wanganella, which will leave Sydney next Saturday and arrive at Wellington on August 4.
