WAIKATO HOSPITAL

YEAR OF PROGRESS BUILDINGS AUTHORISED LEVIES ON LOCAL BODIES [from our own iorrkspondknt] HAMILTON, Thursday A year of progress was recorded in the annual survey of the Waikato Hospital Hoard's work submitted by the chairman, Mr. J. J. Kyburu, to-day. Air. Kyburu said the board had finalised all matters in connection with the erection of the central block at the Waikato Hospital, the'administrative ofliees in Marlborough Place, Hamilton, and additions to the nurses' home, Hotorua. A building loan of £43,000 had been ! raised, and tenders had been let for all the work. New Buildings had been erected as* follows:—Additions to nurses' home, Waikato Hospital, £11,930, and now nurses' home, Matamata Hospital, £2-1-11. A tender of £IOOB had been accepted for the erection of eight additional rooms to the nurses' home at the Waikato Hospital. The staff at the Waikato Hospital had increased from 24.'! to 277, fees received had increased from £19,414 to £22,587. Increases were also noted in connection with the Holonii), To Kuiti, Matamata and Kawhia hospitals. The medical superintendent, Dr. M. M. Hockin, reported that the number of patients treated in the Waikato Hospital last year was 5263, as-against 5079 lor 1935-36, the daily average having increased from 300 to 323. The board has issued a levy on the contributing local bodies requiring them to find £38,812 in four quarterly payments during the current year. The apportionment of the levy is as follows: Otorohangii County, £1845 18s lOd; Cambridge Borough, £7lO, 10s lid; Hamilton Borough, £5095 5s 7d; Huntly Borough, £3ll 19s 4d; Kawhia County, £533 3s 4d; Leamington town district, £133 13s 9d; Matamata County, £3371 19s lOd; Matamata Borough, £362 15s 4d; Morrinsvillo Borough, £450 17s lid; Ngaruawahia Borough, £215 8s 3d; Otorohanga town district, £172 Gs sd; Piako County, £4235 3s 2d; Putaruru town district, £166 Is 9d; Itaglan County, £3778 13s 8(1; Hotorua Borough, £1375 16s -Id; Hotorua County, £771 10s 7d; Taupo County (outlying districts), £326 0s Id; Taupo Hoad District, £ll9 18s Ud; Te Awamutu Borough, £057 10s 8d; To Arolni Horouch, £704 0s 9d; Waikato County, £5231 14s 8d; Waipa County, £5282 Is 3d; Waitomo County,' £2-112 6s lOd; To Kuiti Borough, £546 19s lOd. The board will also receive a subsidy of £33,774 from the Government, its total receipts from these two sources being £72,555.
