FAT STOCK SALES

TRICES AT WESTFIELD FIRM VALUES IN ALL LINES HEAVIER SUPPLIES AVAILABLE Firm values were maintained in all sections of the market at the Westfield fat stock sales yesterday. Slight improvement was revealed on the recent high prices for baconers and porkers. Heavier vardings were general and especially in beef, steers and cows being in greater supply tlnm for several weeks. Quality showed some deterioration among beef. Steers did not retain the consistency of standard that has characterised entries for some time past, and numerous plain cows were on offer. However, buyers followed the sale very keenly, and good individual prices were obtained. Bullocks sold to £l4 2s 6d, which was £1 under the exceptional transaction of a week ago, and cows realised to £lO 10s, which represented a slight decrease on the top bid of last week. Wethers Sell Well Larger numbers of sheep were available than at the former sale, but only a limited assortment of very prime lots was yarded. Wethers made the highest prices since last October in pens of well-finished heavy stock, which realised to 40s 3d each. Other grades averaged about 365, which was about the price ruling a year ago. Good ewes ranged to 33s 6d, which was a better top price than last week. An average quality assortment of lambs met with a ready demand, and recent improved rates were obtained. The choicest lines were traded to 32s each, while unfinished and weedy grades brought from 12s 6d to 20s 3d. Values for all prime calves were very firm. In a good yarding there was not the same fine quality that came forward a week ago, but bidding showed no sign of being subdued. A big runner made £7 Is and vealers were priced to £5 ss. There was an increased entry of prime baconers, which remained in strong request, arid realised to £4 17s for one outstanding pig. A well-finished line from another vendor brought to £4 15s a head. The pork sale was erratic, opening unsatisfactorily and closing at extreme values, the best offer being £3. The averages were quoted unchanged at 6Jd to 7d per lb. for baconers and from 6d to 6Jd for porkers. Comparison of Quotations
