DOMINION ASSOCIATION NEW PRESIDENT INSTALLED NEXT TOURNEY AT DUNEDIN [by telegraph—own correspondent] DUNEDIN, Wednesday Satisfaction nt tho steady growth of the game of bowls in Dunedin was expressed by Mr. S. M. Stone in moving the adoption of tho annual report and balance-sheet at the annual meeting of tho New Zealand Bowling Association, which was held today. Mr. Stone said there had been an increase of 602 bowlers over the number for the previous year and a number of new clubs had been formed. In tho absence of the Immediate past president (Mr. W. Perry), Mr. S. M. Stone (Wellington) occupied the chair until the president-elect, Mr. W. Connor (Dunedin), was installed in his office. The delegates were welcomed by the Mayor, the Rev. E. T. Cox, and the president of the Dunedin Bowling Centre, Mr. J. H. ninton. Financial Position "The finances of the association are healthy," said Mr. Stone. "The year commenced with a credit balance of £305 and ended with balance of £525." They had a very good entry for tho Dominion Uurnament, and the entry fees showed an increase of It, was not the object of tho association to go 011 building up a large fund, and he did not want to convey the impression that that was tho major object. Mr. Douglas Hanning was appointed secretary of the association and Mr, C. Russell Smith auditor. It was decided that the executive should consisting of the* president (Mr. Connor), the treasurer (Mr. H. Rowley) and tr.e Dunedin members of the council (Messrs. G. A. Nelson and R. Hanning). It was resolved that the tournament committee snould consist of the local councillors, together with those members of the Dunedin centre they desired to co-opt. Tournament Conditions It was decided that the Dominion championship tournament at Dunedin will begin on Monday, January 10. The order of play was decided upon as follows:—Singles, pairs and rinks, with rinks having preference in post-section play. A recommendation of the executive, "that the singles competition at the annual association tournament be played tinder the automatic two-life system throughout," created some discussion, tho motion being carried by nine votes to six.

"That the section play of the pairs competition be confined to one day's play, four games only to be played," was recommended by the executive and carried, and a further recommendation from the executive was carried, that any player winning four or three games, or tieing for sections with a lesser number, should tako part in postsectional play on the sudden death system. Mr. Smith (Southland) gave notice of motion as follows:—"That discretionary power be given to the tournament executive to accept entries for pairs from players who arc not members of the same club." A motion was moved by Mr. Hosking and seconded by Mr. Thomson that the rinks play should be conducted as was the case last year. Mr. Smith moved an amendment, that post-section play bo on tho one-life' system, this being seconded by Mr. Currie. The amendment was defeated and the motion was carried.

Entertainment expenses incurred during the annual tournament were the subject of a remit from the Christchurch centre, which recommended that the expenses be a direct charge on the tournament funds of the association. The view was expressed by Mr. H. B. Oakey (Christchurch) that expenses should be curtailed, though not so far as tho wives of participants in the tournaments were concerned. The remit was adopted unanimously.

THE WAIUKU CLUB [from our own correspondent] WAIUKU, Wednesday The Waiuku Bowling Club has elected the following officers for the coming season:— President, Mr. H. B. Armitage; vice-presi-dents. Messrs. H. P. Garland and A. Arkle; secretary, Mr. R. J. Harris; treasurer. Mr. S. von Sturmer; executive, Dr. R. S. Whiteside and Messrs. C. Elmsly, J. Jones, D. Ha,ves and C. R. Barriball; selector, Dr. Whiteside; coach, Mr. E. S. Barriball; auditor, Mr. W. E. Jerram; green superintendent, Mr. E. S. Barriball; press reporter, Mr. Harris; delegates to the Auckland Centre, Mr. Armitage and Dr. Whiteside; delegates to Franklin Bowling Association. Messrs. Armitage and Harris. In the past season, which was the 30th since the club's inception, the active membership reached the record total of .56. OPOTIKI ALMALGAMATION PLAN [by telegraph—own correspondent] OPOTIKI, Wednesday The desirability of the Opotiki Bowling Club and the Opotiki Citizens' Bowling Club amalgamating was emphasised by the president of the former club. Mr. M. 0. Kidd. at a gathering of bowling enthusiasts. Mr. Kidd pointed out that both clubs were suffering, from lack of members, and by amalgamation they would become strong financially and socially. • ... . . , r The president of the Citizens Club, Mr. S M. Jephson, in endorsing Mr. Kidd's reirarks said there was not room for two clubs, and they should try to foster some movement for amalgamation. They could have one green for summer and one for winter.
