MINISTERIAL JAUNTS
Sir, —Anyone who remembers the sarcastic and disparaging rejnarks made by members and leaders of the Labour Party about the "joy rides" to Britain of Messrs. Coates and Forbes some years ago must get quite a lot of grim amusement about the extended "joy-riding and junketing" overseas of the three Ministers of the Labour Government who are having a glorious and expensive holiday abroad (to quote Labour on Messrs. Coates and Forbes), while people are going hungry at home. I think it would bo a safe bet to lay pretty long odds that New Zealand's bill this year for Ministerial "junketings" will be the heaviest yet. Labour inveighed bitterly against the extravagances of former Governments, while in opposition, and now goes several better. The bill for the "joy-ridings" of Mr. Nash will be a pretty long one, and we know nothing as yet of what sheaves, if any, this peripatetic harvester will bring homo. Labour appears to have done, in office, everything it deprecated while out of office. A. Warburton. Ngaruawaliia.
