HOLIDAY PAYMENT
FUTURE AWARD CLAIMS SUGGESTION TO UNIONS .Provision for an annual holiday with pay for all workers is urged by the national executive of the New Zealand Federation of Labour in a circular to affiliated unions regarding future award claims. It is further suggested that a claim should be made for workers who do no,t receive statutory holidays with pay. The circular states that it is expected that during the next session of Parliament, the »ew Zealand Government will ratify a convention adopted last year by the International Labour Conference at Geneva requesting the governments of all affiliated countries to grant an annual holiday with pay, and to enact legislation to that effect. "Such legislation would have a widespread effect, since there are many workers at present who are not paid for annual holidays," the circular adds. "In cases where holidays are paid for the concession is often regarded as compensation for having to work on statutory holidays."
