WRESTLING ITEMS
TEAM IN NEW ZEALAND SOME FAMOUS MEN COMING The Dominion Wrestling Union is gradually getting together a very powerful team of famous matmen. In New Zealand at the moment are Sammy Stein, Hal Rumberg, John Spellman, Matros Kiriiinko, King Kong Cox and Don Mclntyre, from overseas, as well as Lofty Blomfield, the well-known From these alone a series of very interesting matches can be arranged, but this team is to be added to very considerably by some of the world's leading wrestlers. Earl McCready and Chief Little Wolf are at present on their way here. McCready snent two seasons in New Zealand with but one loss recorded against him —that , being by Ed Don George, who was later beaten by McCreadv. The latter then returned to America, where he worked his way to the top flight and earned the right to challenge Dean Detton for the world's tile
It is history that the contest had an unsatisfactory ending through McCready's second," Paul Boesch, throwing in the towel when the wrestler was fastened in a toehold. McCready is anxious to get here and have a series of matches to prepare himself for another challenge to Detton, who will come to New Zealand toward the end of August.
Chief Little Wolf is a full-blooded Indian and has proved one of the greatest draw-cards right throughout the United States. He is one of the most sensational and spectacular wrestlers America has known. He dresses after the style of a cowboy. Another man whose name is a household word in the wrestling world is Strangler Lewis, who will arrive here some time after Chief Little Wolf. Lewis has held the world's championship more times than any other wrestler, and is recognised as the greatest figure in wrestling history. Any man who has opposed him will relate that, if Lewis cares to wrestle on the defensive, it is impossible to take a fall from him
Jumping Joe Savoldi and Vic Christy, at present in Australia, are two others under engagement to the Dominion Wrestling Union, and they will be coining over shortly. Savoldi is known to New Zealand crowds. Christy is a great draw in California and he has been attracting large attendances to his matches in Australia. Vincent Lopez, Hans Steinke and Jim Londos have all expressed a desire to visit New Zealand, but it is impossible to accommodate them all in one year. With the talent on hand, however, any man who desires to challenge Dean Detton for his title will first have to overcome formidable opposition before qualifying to meet the champion.
