VISITS TO OTHER CENTRES MANUKAU'S FINE DISPLAY j MATCH AGAINST BAY OF PLENTY The Manukau Rugby League team which visited Taneatua last Saturday gave a high-class display of fast, open football, which delighted a fair crowd ! of spectators. Brilliant passing bouts I by the Manukau team saw several line | tries scored. Hemi and R. Chase played I outstanding football. Both initiated j* fast attacking movements, and their I ability to change direction quickly was j a feature of the game, j Watene, Brodcrick and Gault played ! splendidly among a good scrum. Ihe j Manukau forwards handled the ball ex- | (.'optionally well. Several Bay of Plenty players stood ; out for good work, particularly D. Wilson, who played a splendid game at fullback. Wilson showed a lot of speed and I soon took up the habit of running with I the ball. The best forward was Hughes, ' who compared very favourably with the | Manukau players. He can handle the ' ball well and has a lot of pace. ! The Manukau team's visit did a lot of good for the code in the district. More visits from Auckland club teams are now being sought.
Members of tho City club had a very successful trip to Tokaanu and after a good game defeated the local team by 36 points to 25. A feature of the game was the splendid play of Mataira, tho former All Black. He was everywhere and showed initiative in opening up the game. Donald was the next best forward ami is fast gaining his form. He is perhaps the best front row forward in Auckland, and his knowledge of this position is making Wehner a successful hooker. Rata and Tawhai showed perfect understanding and proved a thorn in the side of the loknanu players. Rata has only to maintain his" present form to catch the selector's eye for a chance in a representative team. The plav-the-ball rule was not understood by'the Tokaanu team but the referee, Mr. A. IYlcvlntosli, of Auckland, gave every assistance, 'ihe City players speak highly of the entertainments arranged by Mr. J. Aslier, president of the Tokaanu League. A dinner provided at the Maori Pa will be remembered by the players for a long time.
SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP LEADING TEAMS TO MEET t The second round of the Auckland Rugby League's senior championship will be commenced next Saturday. The principal attraction will be the meeting of Richmond, the leading team, and Mount Albert, and a great game should result. Richmond at present is playing well rfs a team, while Mount Albert has also shown improvement. Mount Albert was the only team to defeat Richmond in the first round, and will be anxious to repeat the performance. Richmond is leading by two points from Mount Albert and a win for the latter would bring the teams equal at the top of the championship table.
