The driving force behind the Auckland attack was Cleal at centre-half, who. with G. Sims and Cronin, formed a solid and constructive middle line. Yearbury executed some brilliant aaves in the first half. Ross and McKenna provided a strong defence. A. Francis, at centre-forward, was well watched but distributed the ball well to his wings, where C. Blackie on the right, and Dean on the left, combined well with their inside men, A. Flyger and Caisley. Schonau, in South Auckland's goal, had little chance with tho shots that beat him, and although the defence of Hall and Clark was solid, they did not cover enough, and the. centre-half, Bassick, had a lot to do. Latimer, was a sound centre-forward but. was too well marked to be dangerous, and it was in the combination of Stewart and Robinson on tho right that most of the danger lay.
