FATALITY AT CORNER
BUSINESS DIRECTOR KILLED WIFE SUFFERS BROKEN ARM [by TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION'] CHRISTCIIURGH, Sunday The managing director of Messrs. Thomas Waddell and Sons, steelfounders, Christchurch, Mr. Alex. T. Waddell, died this afternoon from injuries received when a car driven by his wife struck a stone culvert near Amberley on Saturday evening. The accident took place at the corner of Swamp Road and Douglas Road shortly after five o'clock, when Mr. and Mrs. Waddell, with two passengers, were returning from the Amberley races. When turning the corner, which is very sharp, the car ran across the road and struck a culvert at the other side. Mr. Waddell suffered a fractured skull and other injuries. Mrs. Waddell had an arm broken. The car was badly damaged and part of the culvert was carried away. Mr. and Mrs. Waddell were brought to Christchurch by ambulance. Mrs. Waddell's condition was reported to-day to be fairly satisfactory.
