LEAGUE OF MOTHERS

CORONATION PARTY ACTIVITIES OF BRANCHES The Parnell branch of the League of Mothers held its monthly meeting on Thursday. The gathering took the form of a Coronation party. Lady Mackenzie presided.. The hall was gaily decorated with flags and bowls of hydrangeas. Sir George Richardson gave an interesting talk on Empire matters. The orchestra from the Institute for the Blind supplied music. Mrs. S. 0. English, provincial president, gave a short address, and congratulated the branch on its growth. The thought for the month, given by Lady Mackenzie, was Mr. Stanley Baldwin's message to the people of the Empire: " Let us rally behind the new King, let us rally and help him." Hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Wallace Adams and E. T. Hay, assisted by the committee. Afternoon tea was served, and sweets in red, white and blue baskets were distributed to each member. The Parnell branch also held a church parade at Knox Church on Sunday. The Itev. D. Spence welcomed the members and congratulated them on their fine organisation. Miss Jessie Bagnall gave a monologue, and Miss Patricia McLeod sang a solo. MOUNT ROSKILL BRANCH The Mount Roskill branch met in the Methodist Hall last week, Mrs. Giles presiding. An interesting address on Criminal Court law was given by Mr. J. J. Sullivan. Mrs. Snell sang two solos. Tea was served by the hostesses, Mrs. Wansworth, Mrs. Francis and Mrs. Teutenberg. MANUREWA BRANCH At a meeting of the branch at Manurewa Mrs. Russell was presented with a gift in appreciation of her work as treasurer for several years and a bouquet. An address on first aid was given by Mrs. Clemell. Tea was served by Mesdames Macintosh, Sheldon, Lipsham and Claude. Mrs. Sexton presided over the meeting.
