SOLID SIX BY YEBSANT

HOROWHENUA MOVES FREELY VALMINT AND CROONING SPRINT Some interesting -work was carried out at Ellerslie on Saturday, when several, smart efforts were recorded by candidates for the Pukekohe meeting on Wednesday. The No. 2 gras3 was used for galloping and provided fairly good going. The jumpers had the use of the hurdles in the middle and the steeplechase country.

On the grass Versant (Holland) ran six furlongs in 1.19 3-5. He travelled fast in the early stages to run the first three furlongs in 38 4-ss. Versant is working in his best style and should show a return to form during the winter months.

Captain Bruce (Gilchrist) and Locknit (Murray) sprinted half a mile in 52 l-ss, a smart effort. Captain Bruce continues to show, improvement and Locknit, who has made good progress in recent 1 weeks, again worked well. Kilonsa (Fergus) strode over five furlongs in 1.8 4-o, the last three in 42 3-ss. She is not being overtaxed but should be in capital order for her engagements v at the June meeting at Ellerslie. Aero Queen (Moody) went easily over the same ground in 1.12 6-5. Tybalt (Gilchrist) went freely over six furlongs in 1.22 1-5, the last three in 40 4-os. He is thriving on his work and is in nice order. Royal Appellant (Yaughan) was not extended while running six furlongs in 1.24 4-5, the last three in 42 l-os. No fault can be found with his condition. ' Clansman (Buchanan), _ Bronze Wings (Cameron) and Bright Idea (Metcalfe) were in close order at the end of three furlongs in 41,2$>s. Okawa (Fearn) and Thurwind (Gilchrist) were responsible for effort over five furlongs in 1.5, the last three in 39 l-ss. Okawa has gone on the right way and may soon atone for her failures at Whangarei. Gay Broney (Murray) went nicely over five furlongs in 1.7 3-5, the final three ~ m 40 3-os. - Knight ot Australia (Dulieu) and Horowhenua (Gilchrist) worked ingly over a round in 1.47 2-5, the last six furlongs in 1.20. Tooley Street (Kearns) started off some lengths behind them at the five furlongs and was up with them at the end to record 1.6 3-5. Knight of Australia, who had the worse of the weights, was impressive and Horowhenua also pleased. Valmint (Fearn) was slightly m front of Crooning (Dulieu) at the end of six furlongs in 1.18, the last three in 39 3-ss. Valmint-worked-in his best style and his prospects during the - winter months appear bright. The Acre filly (McTavish) and Carshalton (Fergus) sprinted three furlongs smartly in 40 2-ss. Armacourt (McTavish) and Sny - (Murray) ran five furlongs in 1.5 3-5. They did their work well and are in excellent order for approaching engagements. Prince Colossus (Fergus) ran "three furlongs in 42 l-ss. He has not been required to do anything - serious in recent weeks. Ringshot (Giidhrist) finished in front of Te Hai (McTavish) at the completion of a round in 1.47, the last half-mile in 565. Ringshot had the better of the weights and Te Hai was not disgraced. Silver Sound ran right away from United over six furlongs in 1.21 3-5. Silver Sound displayed speeci to run the first three in 38 3-os.

Poi Dance (Eearn) covered five fur- ; longs in 1.7 4-5, the last three in 41 4-os. She has made good progress since joining F. Stenning's stable. Kiltowyn (Goldfinch) sprinted half a mile smartly in 52 3-ss. He is steadily _ improving in condition. Jolly Broney - (McTavish) covered the same ground 1 in 555. c.; Schooling of Jumpers Speed fast (Coon) jumped two hurdles in improved style. Jallcly Karo _ (O'Connor) gave a safe display over four hurdles. He is shaping up nicely ',2 under F. Dowding's guidance. - Lord Val (Baker) led High Star vs. (Williams) over four hurdles. Top Star (Craddock) jumped the sodwall, water-jump and stonewall t without mishap although he got in rather close at the water jump. Black Marlin (Baker), Whakarerehau (Dulieu) and Free Air were associated in a round of the steeplechase country.
