RATEPAYERS' INTEREST

ELECTION OF ASSESSOR EFFECT OF REVALUATION . [by telegram—own correspondent] PAEROA, Saturday The appointment of assessors for the Ohinemuri County has, previous to yesterday, always passed almost unnoticed. A revaluation of the county has just been completed, however, and the ratepayers, especially in the Waihi, Waikino and Waitekauri areas, have been greatly incensed by the increases which have been made in their valuations. Many of them state that their valuations have been increased by up to and over 100 per cent.

When the meeting of ratepayers was held in the county chambers at Paeroa yesterday to elect an assessor to represent the ratepayers on the Assessment Court, over 150 farmers, assembled. Two candidates for the position, Mr. George Buchanan, of Paeroa, and Mr. Harry L. Franklin, of Waikino, were nominated. A poll was held and Mr. Franklin was elected by 77 votes to 56.
