MERCANTILE AUXILIARY
An impromptu dance, social was given on Monday evening by the members of the Mercantile Auxiliarv Club for the petty officers of the visiting French sloop Eigault do Genouillv. The guests were received by the vice-president, Mrs. E. L. Burton, who wore a frock of mauve taffetas, and the club's hostess, Miss Ivie Jennings, wearing a frock of black velvet and rhinestones. Bowls of zinnias and chrysanthemums gave a note of colour to the rooms. Elocutionary items were given bv Miss Mary Pilkington and the Misses F. and G. Craston. and French songs by M. Maire and two of the visitors. Messrs. Etourneaud and Can vie, were greatly enjoyed. Madame Sparkes acted as accompaniste. At the close of the evening a vote of thanks was accorded to M. Maire for his services as euide and interpreter.
