EIGHTIETH BIRTHDAY
MRS. SUSANNAH PHILLIPS The SOth birthday of Mrs. Susannah Phillips, formerly of Lower Matakana, was celebrated yesterday at her home at Swell's Beach. Aire. Phillips' parents were Mr. and Airs. J. Snell, of Cornwall, England, who emigrated to Australia, afterward leaving for New Zealand and settling at Kawau, where Mr. Snell worked at copper-mining. Later they left for the mainland and took up land at the place which to-day bears the name of Air. Snell. After her marriage to Mr. William Henry Phillips, a farmer. Mrs. Phillips lived with her family for 25 years at Matakana. Upon the death of her father, mother, youngest brother and husband. Mrs. Phillips, with her family, took up her residence at the old homestead at Snell's Beach. Of her brothers and sisters, she is the only member of the family left. As far back as she can remember her home has never been without each issue of The Wkkklv News even to the present day. Mrs. Phillips brought up a family of six daughters, one of whom, Mrs. I<\ Goodn.ll, died about 15 years ago. The surviving members are Miss L. Phillips (Te Puke), M.iss E. M. Phillips (who lives with her mother), Mrs. H. Parkes (Snell's Beach), Mrs. L. A. Thompson (Mount Albert), and Mrs. H. G. Ralls (Ardmore). There are 15 grandchildren.
