TE RAPA TRIALS
CURLEW GOES WELL FINE DISPLAY OVER COUNTRY RED FOX SHAPES NICELY [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] HAMILTON, Tuesday Interesting schooling efforts were a feature of the track work at Te llapa this morning, the most impressive trial being that of Curlew over the big country. Curlew (Sullivan), Deirain (Day) ami Lucid us (Gilmer) went off together, with Gascyne (McLaughlin) following several lengths behind. Curlew rushed to tho front after clearing the brush at the top of the straight, and. jumping in dashing style, cleared the post and rails and water-jump by the seven furlongs post in effortless fashion. Deirain and Lucidus also shaped well, but Gascyne, who was having his first experience over the big fences, just managed to scramble over them. Gadger (Smith) handled four hurdles satisfactorily, jumping the first two carefully, but improving as the bout progressed. Boughal (Muir), Sweet Lap (Cotter* and Diaccjiiedoon (Gilmer) were associated over a round of the hurdles. The pace was on early and Boughal rushed to the lront to lead from Sweet Lap and Diacquedoon. Boughal hit the second, did not attempt the third, and hit tin last hard. JDiacquedoon screwed badly at the third and crashed and fell through the hurdle guard. Sweet Lap negotiated the journey safely. lied Fox shaped nicely for a novice over a round of the hurdles. An interesting school was that of the three-year-old Surview, who, after jumping the pony fences at the back of the course, jumped one of the hurdles in the straight in fine style. All the fast work was executed on the Xo. 1 grass. Astrid finished clear of Golden Jubilee over three furlongs in 3l's, Cappv (Jleilly) occupying 39Js over the same ground. Bryee Street (McKenzie) finished on terms with Tosh (Gilmer) at the completion of half a mile in 52$s. Winlona (Thomson) came home the last three furlongs of her work in 40s. They finished together, and it was the most pleasing effort that Anion has performed on the tracks for some time. Spearcourt did strong work. He should be very fit for his hurdle engagement at Pukekohe. Miss Lovelock did strong work and went with plenty of dash. Silver Glow (Stratton) covered five furlongs in 1.9 2-5, being assisted over the last three furlongs in 46s by Highborn (Burgess). They finished together, but naturally Highborn was going the better. The Beau Pere colt and the Cape Horn colt in l r . Smith's stable went along at half-pace over a couple of furlongs. Parquet (Bell) ran the last mile of a round in 1.47. She was assisted over the last six furlongs in I.lßs by Ivy Willonyx (Jones), the last three being run in 39 3-os. ft was a good gallop under the circumstances.
