SPORT AND RECREATION DOMINION COUNCIL PLAN In view of the proposal for a national council of sport as outlined last month by the Minister of Internal Affairs, the Hon. W. E. Parry, representatives of Auckland sports bodies met this week to discuss their various claims and requirements. The discussion was the last of a series which has been held by the Workers' Educational Association on "Keeping Fit—How and Why." The outcome of this meeting, which was on the subject of "Health Through Sport," was that sports bodies will be asked to express opinions with the object of submitting a comprehensive report to the Minister. The chairman, Mr. A. MacGregor, president of the Royal Life-Saving Society, outlined points from Mr. Parry s address to the conference held in Wellington. The Minister had said that the foundation of a system of national physical well-being must be in the schools, but there was room for a national council to encourage intelli-' pent co-ordination of after-school sport and recreation, without interfering with existing organisations. Mr. G. Grey Campbell, chairman of the management committee .of the Auckland Ihigby League, agreed that a beginning must bo made in the schools and this would require properlytrained instructors or games organisers. It- was decided to prepare a report 011 the points brought out, forward it to the various sports organisations for their consideration and then to convene a further meeting with the object of coinpiling a comprehensive report for the Minister-.
