OPOSSUM TRAPPING
REQUEST FOR CLOSE SEASON [BY TELEGIIAPH—rRF.SS ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON, Monday A close season for opossum trapping and an increase in the maximum penalty for offences against the regulations were requested by a deputation from tho Wellington Acclimatisation Society, which, waited on the Minister of Internal Affairs, the Hon. W. E. Parry, to-day. The deputation pointed out that the industry had grown in importance from the revenue viewpoint, but the number of skins taken last venr showed a big drop. 3 Fines for poaching and other broaches had not acted as a deterrent.
The Minister agreed to give the question serious consideration.
