GOLD ROD AND AJAX BEST FORM AT RANDWICK TABLES TURNED ON CAESAR [from our own correspondent] SYDNEY, March 30 New Zealand horses wore scarce during the Easter racing at Randwick and it was left to Gold Rod and Prince Quex, who finished first and second respectively in the St. Leger, to uphold the honour of Dominion bloodstock. Gold Rod was definitely superior to the opposition and Prince Quex finished well into second place. Gold Rod, being owned by Mr. E. J. Watt, trained by G. L'rico and ridden by M. McCarten, completed the New Zealand connection, although all three men by process of time are now as nearly naturalised Australians as any New Zealauders can be. Prince Quex carried Mr. W. R. Kemball's colours and is trained by G. Jones. Gold Rod settled all doubts about his staying the St. Leger course, although ho had the race run to suit him. Tlie Sires' Produce Stakes, run on Easter Saturday, provided a surprise, for Ajax, who had been well beaten by Caesar at Elemington, not only turned the tables but won running away. He gave M. McCarten the easiest of rides. Caesar finished second, while Una, who had beaten both Caesar and Ajax at Elemington, was only fifth. There appeared to bo possible excuse for tho beaten division. Ajax is a fine Heroic colt, who made a very favourable impression early in tho autumn campaign, but spoiled his record at the Victoria Racing Club meeting.

SARCIIERIE'S DONCASTER HEAVY SUPPORT BY OWNER [from our own cokkkhpondrnt] SYDNEY, March 30 The Doncaster Handicap saw the downfall of the Queensland idol, Pa mollis. He started a very hot favourite, but did not appear a likely winner at any part. Ho did race up to the leaders at the turn from a handy place he had held in the first half-mile, but from that point he made no impression. He had been taken rather easily in his work prior to the meeting and it came as no surprise to close track observers to see him beaten.

The winner, that good mare Sareherie, has raced in all good handicaps during the past three seasons and has been second in two Melbourne Cups. She has been a puzzle on many occasions, for her owner, Mr. .7. J. Leahy, has made a rule of having her dually engaged. On the eve of the Doncaster Handicap, ho backed his maro for a sum approximating £IO.OOO. Well ridden by the former pony jockey R. Maxwell, Sarcherio did the rest and won decisively. Silver Rose and Evening Mist followed homo Sarcherio, making tho result a 100 per cent success for the mares. Silver Rose has struck good form and made all her own running. She won the La L'erouso Handicap in great style on Easter Monday, thus confirming the Doncaster form. The Melbourne mare Evening Misty came from a hopeless position to fill third place in the Doncaster. She is a solid galloper who has done exceptionally well this season in her home State. Gay Blonde was a starter in the Doncaster Handicap, but she shaped only moderately.
