RAETIIII CATTLE FAIR FAT LINES IN DEMAND LARGE ATTENDANCE OF BUYERS Freeman R. Jackson and Company, Limited, report having held its annual Raetihi autumn cattle fair on Thursday, There was a big attendance of buyers, ganging over districts from Feilding, Wanganui, Hawera and as far north at Matamata. Contrary to expectations, all classes of cattle met with a ready and sustained demand, especially for fattening cattle of both sexes, the bulk of this class being taken by Taihape district clients.

In the bullock section top price of £lO 12s was obtained by the Scott Estate for a pen of 49 very nice Polled Angus bullocks, their total offering of 88 bullocks making the good average of £lO 6s 9d. These were followed by F. McNie and H. Bolton, £9 16s; E. Hall and R. L. Gibson, £9 10s; T. McArthur, £9 6s; Mrs. Houghton, £9 3s; J. Handley, £9; several others»clients" lines making close up to this figure. Morikau station's fat cows at £8 2s were top of their section, followed by P. Malpas at £7 10s, numerous other pens ranging just below this rate. In the 20-month steer section, P. Punch obtained £7 16s for his line of Polled Angus and £7 7s i'or his Herefords, other lines making btween £6 8s and £0 18s. Several lines of Polled Angus yearling heifers were sold at between £5 and £0 9s, the latter price being obtained for a line of 31 on account of Morikau station. Two and a-half year stejrs sold freely up to £8 ss, three and a-half year empty heifers up to £6 lis, and forward cows up to £6 12s.

MORRINSVILLE OFFERINGS The Farmers' Co-operative Auctioneering Company, Limited, reports:—At the Morjrinsville stock sale there was only a small entry of sheep, chiefly unfinished fat ewes and store lambs. Fat iambs met with better competition and sold in advance of schedule rates. There was a heavy yarding of cow and heifer beef, with finished quality in short supply. This section was keen, a sharp rise resulting. Cattie from Mr. Dynes McConnell, Orini, sold to £9 2s, from Mr. J. R. White to £8 9s, pnd from Mr. J. R. "Welch to £8 ss. Second quality and boner cows also came forward in extra heavy numbers and these were again absorbed by exporters at Tate firm rates. Bulls were penned in full numbers, prices showing no change. The advertised entry of station-bred cattle from the East Coast attracted a fair bench of buyers, but competition was not as keen as at previous sales and values generally were easier. Most of the steers yarded were young cattle and a better demand existed for in-calf heifers, of which several choice pens came forward, and in most cases clearances were effected. There was a record yarding of fat pigs and a medium entry of stores and weaners. A full bench of buyers was operating for all classes and prices realised were slightly in advance of those ruling at Frankton. Store? and weaners sold on a par with recent rates. OHAUPO HORSE FAIR The New Zealand Loan and. Mercantile .Agency Company, Limited, Hamilton, reports as follows on the Ohaupo horse fair:— Quite a fair entry came forward. It comprised about 15 unbrokens, 60 draughts, and approximately 20 hacks. Heavy unbroken farm horses-aroused keen interest, but inferior ones were not particularly well sought. The majority of the draught horses were medium to light. Heavy class draughts met with a satisfactory demand and most of these sold. Offers, however, for lighter horses were mostly a little short of reserves and consequently there were occasionally passings in this section. Good hacks were in satisfactory demand and the majority found buyers at about reserve figures. Generally speaking *a satisfactory sale was recorded.
