WH ANGAREI PROPOSAL INQUIRY BY COMMITTEE The committee which has been set up by the Bureau of Industry to hear evidence and report on the proposal to establish a fertiliser factory at Whangarei was in Auckland during the week-end, and was prepared to hear local evidence, but none was submitted. As the industry is one of those gazetted as licensed industries official permission is required before such a factory cnn bo built. ) . x The committee, which is presided over by Mr, F. Johnson, assistant-sec-retary of the Department of Industries and Commerce, heard evidence at Whaiigarei and at Dnrgaville last week. While at Whangarei the committee inspected the proposed site for the new industry at Kioreroa Uoad, and was very favourably impressed with it. as it was with the possibilities of development in the north generally. The site appeared to be particularly well suited for the handling of material by sea, road and rail. The committee left last night for Wellington, whero it Will, hear further evidence. .Lfc is not anticipated that it will lie necessarv to hold a sitting in Auckland. The date of the completion of the committee's report to the Bureau of Industry will depend upon what further evidence is found necessary.
