PRICES AT SMITIIFIELD LAMB MARKETS STEADY EASING IN PORKER PIGS There is a steady tone with prices unchanged in the market for lambs at Smithfield, according to the weekly report of the New Zealand Meat Producers' Board. Wethers are in fair demand with heavy-weights slightly easier. Ewes are also a shade easier. Frozen and chilled beef fores are firmer, with hindquarters slightly easier. For New Zealand porker pigs prices are easier with trade slow. Baconers are steady with a firmer tendency. Following are the latest quotations announced by the board, together with the values ruling at the close of the previous week: —

The weekly quotations ar© based on actual sales of wholesale quantities of carcases of mutton or lamb or of quarters of beef delivered to Smithfield market and/or London stores. To arrive at the equivalent ex ship values one farthing per pound should be deducted from the prices quoted above. Quotations given represent the average for the week, and are not selected lines, but for parcels fairly representative of the bulk of shipments now on offer. DECLINE IN EWES EXPECTED LARGER SUPPLIES ARRIVING The Bank of New Zealand has received the following advice from its London office as at close of business last week: —Wethers: The market is steady. Ewes: Prices are likely to decline in the near future owing to larger supplies arriving. Lamhs: The market is quiet and unchanged. Quotations:—Wethers,'light, 4|d to ssd per lb.; heavy, 4§d to 4Jd; ewes, 3|d to 4|d; lambs, twos, 7d to 7id; eights, to 6£d; fours, 6gd to 6Jd; seconds, G|d to 7d.

EXPORT RATES UNCHANGED TAX UPON SHIPPING SPACE Schedule prices for fat stock for export remain unchanged for this week. A shortage of shipping space at the moment- has caused some congestion at the works, but it is expected that the difficulty will be overcome within a few weeks. Export schedule prices for fat stock on hooks at freezing works at Southdown for this week's killings are: — Beef. —Bulls, 18s 3d per 1001b.; boner cows, 14s. Lambs. —Up to 361b., SJcl; 371b. to 421b.. BJd; over 421b., 8d; seconds, Sid; light seconds, 7jd; shorn, Id less, all grades, with the usual deductions for seedy.
