The plough and the outside of the course proper provided firm going. There was a large number of spectators. On the course proper much interest centred in a gallop over nine furlongs between Silver Ring;. Ponty. Argentic and Sunae. Silver Ring began smartly from Argentic and Sunee, while Ponty was slow to move and lost several lengths. There was not much between the quartet at the half-mile post, but Silver Ring then suddenly retired and Argentic carried on in front and finished well clear of Sunee and Ponty. who were together. It was not possible accurately to.time them from the ninefurlong post, but they ran the last mile in 1.42 2-5. Argentic gave a most impressive display, but both Sunee and Ponty also finished on well. Silver Ring was a long way back, and later in the morning lie developed severe lameness in a shoulder, which no doubt accounted for his poor showing. Should Silver Ring not be able to start on Monday, Argentic will be ridden by A. E. Ellis. Yale and Garonne ran half a mile in 50s. Emissary, under restraint, followed in 51s. Wino and Fiord recorded 495. .Miracle covered six furlongs well in 1.15 3-5, and other tasks over this distance were by Propped Catch and Recollection, 1.17 3-5; Silver Sight, 1.17 1-5. Dictate finished on terms with | Gresham and La Me.ri in 49 3-ss, after : giving them a start over half a mile. I Comus and Clubman recorded 49 l-os; j Sky Lass, 51s; Love Affair, 49 3-ss; : Irish Fiddle, 50 l-ss: Great Bramble. I 19 2-ss; Bonnie Agnes. 495; Silver Slipper, 49 3-ss; Orange Bud, 52 l-ss; : and Lisnacree, 49 3-s*. Joyous ran five furlongs in 1.4 1-5. Polvdora and Swordstick galloped a mile in 1.42 3-5, the second half in 51s. The latter gave another attractive display. Grey Honour heat Balmenter comfortably over seven furlongs in 1.33 ,"V5. Epic covered the same journey in 1.31. Concertpitch was responsible for a brilliant effort in 1.27 2-n, the last . four furlongs taking 49 l-ss. He carried a very light weight, but was j always doing his work well. Willie Win recorded 1.28 3-5 for the same ; distance, the last four occupying 49 ; l-os. Chief Ranger beat Travenna in 1.29 3-5, the last four in 525. They were together until about 100 yards from the post, where Travenna slowed 1 up. owing to some gear trouble, and I Chief Ranger drew away. 1 On the plough, Wild Chase covered six furlongs well in 1.15 2-5, without much apparent effort. Top Notch joined in for the last five. Paper Slipper did :i similar task in 1.15 1-5. Mob Rule ran five furlongs in 1.3. Nightdress beat Haughty Winner over the same ground in 1.1 3-5, the last three in 37s —a brilliant effort. Royal Chief recorded 1.3, the last three in 38 l-ss.
