EXPLOSION ON FIJIAN CREW PICKED UP SAFELY (Received March 2S, 5.5 p.m.) BRISBANE, March 'JS A message received by the sub-collec-tor of customs at Townsville stated that the American freighter Fijian, in which an explosion had occurred, had sunk near Yaruto, a small island in the Marshall Group. The c-rcw of 40 took to the boats and were picked up by the Japanese vessel Shinko Maru. An earlier message had stated that the fire on the Fijian had been checked and that tho crew had returned to the ship.
