Hidden by (J. Tattersall, and with his approximate Faster Handicap poundage, lie jumped away beyond the. mile post to run his first two furlongs in 265. He was joined by Silver River (Chaplin), who had about 8.0, before tlio five furlongs post. Martara ran the five furlongs in 1.3 3-5, and caino home two lengths clear of his companion, to complete the journey in 1.11. lie ran approximately 75 yards over the mile, and it must stand as the record for the course, eclipsing Bronze's time of several years ago.

The Crooner (G. Tattersall) drew clear of Bluffer (S. Anderson) in traversing fivo furlongs in 1.5 4-5, the last three in 39 4-ss. Auroroa's Love (J. Chaplin) moved attractively over three furlongs in 39 2-ss. Corroboree (R. Cliisliolm) ran five furlongs in 1.4 2-5. Cloudy Bay (C. Mansfield) required 1.21 for six.

Hunting Lore (Tattersall) held a slight advantage over Laughing Chief ( Anderson) at the end of half a mile in 55 3-ss. Dungarvan (C. Thomson) hit out over a mile in 1.53 4-5, the last six furlongs in 1.18 1-5. Chat (Chisholm) beat Lactose (Anderson) by two lengths over six furlongs in 1.22. The winner could havo improved on the time. Catalogue (Chisholm) ran a milo well in 1.47 4-5. He took 14 4-5s for the first furlong, but covered the first five in 1.7 4-5.

Training at Band wick this morning was done on the course proper, with the hurdles out 60ft. from the rails.

The Doncaster Handicap favourite, Painelus, who is never worked hard on the tracks, moved attractively over six furlongs in 1.20. Young Idea, Beechwood and Cancgrass went together to record 1.18. Young Idea, ridden right out, just won from Beeehwood. Turbine and Gay Blonde, who was very lightly shod, registered the fastest time, L 3}, for five furlongs.

The Haider recorded the best seven of the morning in 1.30, a particularly meritorious gallop, as he went wide on the turns.

Caesar, finishing strongly, led Bombus over five furlongs in 1.5. Ajax and Lochlee registered I.lßs for six. In a little over a week this horse has risen from obscurity to being favourite for the Sydney Cup. He is a six-year-old whose career was interrupted when he broke down in a hind leir a couple of years ago. On recovering he competed at the country meetings, and had not won a race worth more than £35 until he hurst into the limelight by winning the Autumn Handicap.
