PARQUET PLEASES

WORK AT TAKANINI

VALAMITO BEATS ROUND UP

GOOD HALF-MILE BY ANION

With the poles 18ft. out, and the grass fast, most of the serviceable work at Takanini yesterday was done on the plough. Slight showers fell, but not enough to completely dry tho dust. Round IJp (Stone) and Valamito (O'Brien) ran an oven seven furlongs. Round Up got about a length the better of the jump-away, but both were together after half a mile. Valamito came away, and, under a good hold, finished two lengths to the good. Timed from tho six to the one furlong post they ran 1.2 2-5. It was a pleasing performa n ec. liner (O'Brien), Anion (Jones) and Highborn (Mclnally) went from the half-mile post, Anion giving the other two a length the best of the start. All finished together. Miss Lovelock (Bartlc) again took a little more interest in her work, while brushing home over the last two furlongs. High Quality Jumps Well High Quality (Walters) was tho only horse to school, and he went a mile and three-quarters, jumping four (lights of hurdles and running the distance in 2.20. He went slowly over the first two fences, but performed very pleasingly over the last two, and pulled up well. It fwill not be for want of condition if ho fails to perform well on Saturday. After breakfast Sacconc (Clifton) and Survoy (Home) ran half a mile in 50s, with Saccone being kept up to his work at the finish. He is inclined to loaf in his work. Survoy went pleasingly. On the plough Parquet (Bull) strode over live furlongs in 1.3 2-5. She is very fit and if she begins well should be hard to beat in the Easter Handicap. Inquisitor did pace work. Ivy Willonyx ran half a mile in 53 3-ss. She is a promising filly. Romani (Hatwoll) and Bachelor King (Home) ran half a mile in 50s, finishing together, with Romani, on tlie outside, travelling very smoothly. Bachelor King has been pulling up a bit sore lately but showed little illeffects after his work yesterday. The Siegfried and Night Raid colts did useful work. A. Quinlivan Transfers Flood Tide ran the las}; three furlongs of his second round pleasingly. Raepata (Walters) brushed along over six furlongs but was not at top. Professional also did useful work. Lap Up, looking very strong, was allowed to run along up the straight. This was his first fast work since being recommissioned. Royal Passage, who is very well, was quite at home at Takanini, where he received his early education. Dutch Girl looks moro solid than formerly and should race in improved fashion. A. Quinlivan has transferred his quarters from Avondale to Takanini and at present has under his charge Professional, Royal Passage and Dutch Girl. He will add the filly by Bronze Eagle—Green Bonnet to his string after Eastor. The youngster is a halfsister to Royal Passage.
