CRICKET SEASON

CHAMPION ELEVEN SUCCESS OF NORTH SHORE STRONG ALL-ROUND TEAM With North Shore now assured of championship honours for tlio second year in succession it is likely that the Auckland Cricket Association will close the competition which, iu view of the M.C.C. team's visit, would not otherwise be concluded until April 17. As some football clubs have already started training and with the early keenness being taken in the forthcoming visit of the Springboks many cricketers would appreciate the opportunity to get in form before the Rugby season is commenced.

North Shore proved the best allround side in the championship and its success was well deserved. Iho team has a wealth of young talent and should be near the top of the championship for several seasons. In spite of the loss of the wicketkeeper, I). B. Edmonds, for several matches owing to his undergoing an operation for appendicitis, the team continued its run of successes and provided a type of cricket which always appeals to the spectators. Much of the credit for North Shore's championship win can be taken by the captain, C. C. Dacre, who moulded the eleven into a strong club combination. PROMISING COLT MILLS AGAIN IN FORM There are many promising. colts in Auckland at the present time and one who seems destined for higher honours in the near future is L. Archer, the North Shore left-hander, who has. had a very successful season. He played a verv * bright innings last Saturday against Y.M.C.A., scoring 93, including 12 fours, in 45 minutes. His splendid driving and hooking were a feature of his display

. J. E. Mills, tlio former Auckland and. New Zealand representative, who has experienced a lean season, struck form against King's Old Boys and was unbeaten with 126 not out, including 17 fours. H. Duncan, the former Otago representative, is enjoying a run of success in recent matches and he played a line innings for 62 against University before being run out. NEW ZEALAND TEAM MATCH AGAINST M.C.C. I ———- Considerable interest will centre in the match between the M.C.C. team and New Zealand, which will be commenced at Wellington to-day and be continued to-morrow and on Saturday. The game should provide a good test of New Zealand's strength and its prospects on the tour to England. It is to be regretted than an injury to W. N. Carson will prevent him from taking part as the match would havo given him very valuable experience. The New Zealand batsmen will be well tested against the fast visiting attack, a form of bowling which has proved very troublesome to the majority of Dominion players in the past. After the match in Wellington the M.C.C. team will visit Rotorua and will arrive in Auckland by motor-cars on the evening of March 31. A three clays' match against Auckland and Wellington combined will bo commenced at Eden Park on Thursday, April 1,- and will be continued on April 2 and 3. The touring players will leave Auckland by the Mariposa on tho evening of April 3.
