UNION'S TROUBLES
LOCAL BODY WORKERS EXECUTIVE CRITICISED A request for the intervention of the Minister of Labour, the. Hon. H. T. Armstrong, into the affairs of the Auckland and Suburban Local Bodies Labourers' 1 nion is to be made by members ol the union, who attended a special meeting at the Unity Hall last night. About 150 men were present, and they decided to ask the Minister to appoint someone to conduct a ballot for the election of a new executive, as they considered that the present officers were not acting in accordance with members' wishes. Mr. W. McLennan presided. " A solicitor has given his opinion that it is impossible to alter the present rules of the union within the confines of the rules themselves, and we have proved conclusively that we cannot get a fair deal under the rules we have," said the chairman. "The executive and secretary-treasurer have at times absolutely ignored any resolution by a majority of members." The meeting resolved that, as the secretary, president and the trustees retired from the annual meeting 011 M arch 17, they had forfeited all claims to represent the union. Authority was given the acting committee to retain possession of all books, vouchers and correspondence.
