Bookings for seals have been heavy and to cope with the expected crowds the Wellington Association has erected extra seating accommodation. Duckworth and Copson from the English side and Carson and Donnelly from New Zealand are standing down. Car- * son has a slight ankle injury which caused him to limp to-dav, but it is not expected to be serious. Some disappointment is felt that both Carson and Donnelly should be standing down. Carson's performances have caused great interest, while Donnelly's youth and excellent fielding at Auckland stimulated interest. No change in the team is, however, likely. An inspection of the wicket showed it to be in good condition. The Basin Reserve groundsman said to-day that the preparation of a first-class wicket so late in the season was difficult, particularly as the Wellington weather during the last few days had been humid and water could not be used. Nevertheless, the wicket rolled out well and should stand up to three days' play without trouble.

CLOSE OF MONDAY'S PLAY COMMENT IN CIIRISTCHURCH [BY TELKGH API! —PKKSS ASSOCIATION] CIIKISTCHUHCH, Tuesday Several references to the early cancellation of play on Munday in the M.C.C. match against the CanterburyOtago team were made at the linal meeting for the season of the management committee of the Canterbury Cricket Association. Just before the chairman, Mr. W. L. King, had completed his report on the season, he mentioned the possibility of an Australian team being invited to play in New Zealand next year. "I hope that they will play when there are days available for them." said Mr. I. IJ. Cromb. "That cancellation of play on Monday morning was a very bad effort bv those responsible." Other members also mentioned the matter in passing, although the subject was not discussed at any length, as it was made clear that the match was not within the jurisdiction of the Canterbury Association.
