LAST YEAR'S PROGRESS | CONFERENCE NEXT WEEK The annual conference of the AuckI land district, Manchester Unity Odd- ' fellows, will open at the Manchester | Unity Hall at 9.30 a.m. next WednesI day. The Mayor, Mr. Ernest Davis, will j accord an official welcome to the delei gates, numbering 86, from the 70 lodges comprising tho district, which extends throughout the province. Two new lodges were opened during the year, one at Wellsford and the other at Taneatua. The district has made considerable numerical progress, for its adult benefit membership increased from 7241 to 8935. The membership is as follows: —Adult benefit members, 8935; junior members, 292; widows' contributing for benefits, 123; honorary members, 1071; total, 10,421. Tho following benefits were paid during 1936: —Maternity, £2642; medical attendance and medicine, £10,626 12s; hospital, £46.J7 6s; sickness, £13,462 los I'd: death, £1786; total, £33,154 1.3s Id. The increased membership brings with it additional responsibilities, and this is reflected in the increased sickness benefits which were paid last year, tho increase being £6Ol 12s lOd.
