TARANAKI WORK

NEW PLYMOUTH/TRACK HAZOOR'S SEVEN FURLONGS SOUND SIX BY CONVIVIAL [BY TELEGRAm —OWN CORRESPONDENT] NEW PLYMOUTH, Tuesday Tho weather was good and tho tracks fast for tho final trials before the Taranaki Cup meeting at New Plymouth this morning. Tho course proper, with the flags out about 30 feet, and the plough tracks were available. Several visiting horses were seen in action. The best gallops were those of Tho Tiger, Oratory, Convivial, Tho Bigot, Hazoor and Chief Ranger. On tho course proper Kentucky Song was a length in front of Gay Marionette, with All Happiness two lengths away at tho end of five furlongs in 1.7, the first two taking 25 2-os. Kentucky Song galloped in attractive fashion. Oratory strode boldly over five furlongs in 1.4 1-5. She ran the first two in 25 2-ss, three in 38 3-ss, and appeared to have something in reserve. The Tiger gained an advantage of over two lengths from Clessamor at tho start of a five-furlongs trial and he was still clear at tho finish, 'running the distance in 1.4, the last half-mile in 51 2-ss. The Tiger should make a bold showing 011 Thursday. Maestro moved freely over a round, tho last three furlongs occupying 395. Ho is in splendid order. Half-mile by Greenwich

Convivial was just in front of Chief llangor, with Bantry several lengths away, at tho end of six furlongs in 1.18 1-5. Convivial hit out freely all the way, while Chief Ranger's effort was satisfactory, as ho is not a good track worker. Bantry did not jump off well and did not travel smoothly. The Bigot and Eagle's Eye were on terms, with Captain Tudor several lengths away at the end of half-a-milo in 51s. Tho Bigot carried well over 9.0 and Eagle's Eye had a light boy. Tho Bigot should run prominently in tho Taranaki Plate. Eagle's Eye shaped well for a maiden. Greenwich was not extended to run half-a-mile in 51 2-5s on the trial grass.

On the plough, Ringside surprised by leading High Test and Tahurangi over six furlongs in 1.17. Ringside shaped really well, but Tahurangi, after being in the rear nearly all the way, finished with a great rattle and he must be accorded a chance in the cup on Thursday. Grateful was given two rounds of half-pace work. He is not engaged on the first day, but will probably race on Saturday. Earl Colossus occupied 1.9 2-5 for the last five furlongs of a circuit. Hazoor covered seven furlongs in 1.31 4-5, the last five taking 1.4 4-5. He moved evenly all the way and had something in reserve. Calshot Beats Ohanga

Export, who is looking well, was given a working gallop over a round, the last five furlongs taking 1.10. Glenthawn covered two rounds at good halfpace. He has put on condition during tho last month and is looking particularly bright. Calsliot gave Ohanga two lengths' start over five furlongs and beat him home by over a length in 1.3 2-5. Calshot's finishing effort was full of determination. Aussie l'la and Davistock were sent a mile and a-quarter and they kept together all the way. They ran the last mile in 1.53 2-5 and the last five furlongs in 1.8 4-5. Aussie Ra worked more generously than he has done of late. Don Erma led Bonny Glow for most of tho way over a mile, but Bonny Glow beat him by over a length in 1.47 2-5, the last five in 1.5 1-5. The winner worked impressively and she may make amends on the circuit for her Trentbam failures. Don Erma performed well for a hurdler. Bazaine was well in front of Royal Routine at the conclusion of a round of the schooling hurdles. Bazaine Jumped well, although he pulled hard. Royal Routine clouted two fences, but did not look like falling. G. W. New, with Martara, and Rayner, with three horses, are expected to arrive to-night.

GALLOPS AT HAWERA

STUDENT PRINCE GOES WELL [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] HAWEBA, Tuesday The final gallops at Hawera for the New Plymouth meeting were staged this morning. All the fast work was done on the plough track, which was in excellent order. Student Prince sprinted three furlongs after pace work in 37 2-ss, moving attractively. He has done exceptionally well since the holidays and promises to strip in. fine order on Thursday. Naughty Marietta and Fairy Dale recorded 1.4 3-5 for five furlongs. One VVhetu was going easily alongside international at the close of a similar trial in 1.5. Both appear to have benefited by their Wanganui racing and they should acquit themselves well. Wotan was allotted two rounds of steady pace work. King Pluto covered four furlongs in 51 2-ss. Dancing Lady sprinted three furlongs in 36 l-ss. She shows pace on the track. Friesland was hard held to stay with Gay Step over five furlongs, which occupied 1.3. The former has been galloping exceptionally well and may atone for his recent disappointments. Lowenbcrg, looking bright, traversed half a mile in 51 2-ss. His next appearance ■will be in the Egmont Cup. Mintour took 1.3 4-5 for five furlongs. Settlement, Narrator and Royal Fire were given barrier practice. Settlement may race at Hawera on the second day. Red Manfred jumped cautiously over five fences yesterday morning. Valrov gave a splendid exhibition over five hurdles.
