WORLD ECONOMICS

PENDING DISCUSSIONS WASHINGTON AS VENUE MR. RUNG I MAN'S VISIT By Telegraph— Press Association—Copyright (Received January 17, p.m.) NEW YORK, Jan. lfi The Washington correspondent of (lie New York Times says important economic discussions arc expected to lie held next week when the President of the British Board of Trade, Mr. Walter Bunciman, will lie a guest at White House of President Roosevelt.

At a press conference to day, however, Mr. Booscvelt indignantly denied reports from London appearing in the Hearst press to the effect that lie had invited Britain and France to begin preliminary discussions for the adoption of a peace programme based on financial and trade factors. Mr. Roosevelt said that Mr. Runcinian was not coming on a mission but had been invited to \\ hite House as the President's personal friend.

The impression has been gained that Mr. Bunriman has not yet informed Mr. Roosevelt what ho wishes to discuss.

Some belief is expressed that the appointment of M. Georges Bonnet as French Ambassador to the United States may result in further soundings on the war debt question, and it is thought that talks between Mr. Runciman and M. Bonnet may initiate a movement for an international conference to discuss currency stabilisation, trade and allied subjects. INTEREST IN LONDON BANKER TO JOIN TALKS INTERNATIONAL TRADE (Received January 17, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, Jan. 10 The City is interested in the announcement that Sir Otto Niemever, of the Bank of England, who is visiting New York, may join Mr. Walter Runciman

in his talks with Mr. Roosevelt. The general opinion is that Britain, France and America are collaborating in a new effort to revive international trade. It is not expected that anything approaching a world economic conference will be summoned. The method is more likely to he an agreement on specific slops toward the economic pacification of Europe.
