RAILWAY WORKING PERIOD TO DECEMBER 5 DECREASE OF £45,294 SHOWN [nr TKI.KCBAPn —OWN correspondent] WELLINGTON, Thursday A working profit of £31,937 is shown in the railway accounts for the fourweekly period ended December 5, an abstract of which appears in to-night's Gazette. This represents a decrease of £45,294 compared with the corresponding period last year, when tho working profit was £77,231 The gross receipts for the four weeks were £591,306, an increase of £55,654. while expenses were £559,369, an increase of £100,948.

Earnings by tho North Island railways amounted to an increase of £24,105, and expenses to £297,367, an increase of £48,862. There was a working profit of £21,409, compared with £46,166 last year.

Receipts from the South Island railways were £202,191, an increase of £17,575, and expenses were £218,304, an increase of £40,553. A loss of £16,113 was "shown, against a. profit of £6865 last year.

Miscellaneous revenue amounted to £70,339, and expenses to £43,698, leaving a net revenue of £26,641, compared with £24,200 last year. For the period from April 1 to December 5, the net revenue was £389,128, compared with £431,382. The tjross revenue was £4.960,698, an increase of £531,274. The expenditure was £4.571,570, an increase of £573,528. Following is a summary of the net results for the corresponding periods of four weeks in the last three years: —
