REDUCTION OF DEFICIT PUBLIC DEBT LARGER (Received January 0, 0.15 p.m.) WASHINGTON, Jan. 5 At the end of the first lialf of the 1936 fiscal year (December 31) the Government's deficit totalled 1.394,000,000 dollars. The public debt totalled :M,406,000,000 dollars. A year ago the deficit was ] .879,000,000 dollars and the public debt .'50,557,000,000 dollars.
