It will commence with a special feature, " All the Winners," with a few " tips," by Alan McElwain, tho inimitable humorist, and John Watchman. It will include at, 8.1.5 a recital by Signor and Signora Marotta, basso and soprano, of works by Schumann, Ciniara, Nutile, and Verdi. A Hogmanay programme by the Wellington Gaelic Society is to be broadcast by 2YA between 10 p.m. and midnight to-night, and this is to be followed by a short relay of the New Year celebrations from the Chief Post Office, Wellington. From 8 p.m. to midnight on Friday the Dunedin station will offer a long night modern dance programme, the music being supplied by the 4VA Dance Band, under the conductorship of Gil Dech. Jean MeFarlane, contralto, is prominently featured in Monday's programme from 2YA. While listeners have appreciated to tho full the cricket broadcasts, the commentary on the third day of the second test disclosed a defect which undoubtedly arose from tho system employed. So much had occurred between tho conclusion of the 3 p.m. and the commencement of the 5.30 p.m. broadcast that, in tho absence of a precis of the play during the interval, it was impossible to understand tho position. No doubt the broadcasting authorities will take care to repair this omission in the ball by ball descriptions in the third test. This is to commence on Friday, and on each day of play the national stations will broadcast descriptions at 3 p.m., 5 30 p.m. and 7.30 p.m., supplemented by a resume of the day's play at 9 p.m., and by comments at 9.38 p.m.

The annual series of inter-provincial yacht races for the Sanders Cup is to commence early in February at Lyttelton. Craft representing the provincial districts of Auckland, Wellington, Canterbury, Otago and Southland will compete and the racing will extend over a week, two races being held on most days. The broadcasting authorities have already determined to broadcast each event and Mr. 11. Camp, of Dunedin, is to journey to Lyttelton to act as commentator. The present intention is that tho descriptions should be broadcast from 3YA only, but those in Dunedin who are interested are endeavouring to arrange for rebroadcasts by each of the main stations.

In the small hours of the mornings during the past week tho new 2YA transmitter has been undergoing preliminary testing with such satisfactory results that the date of tho official opening has been .fixed for January 25. On Tuesday the 60-kilowatt plant took over the ordinary programme schedule of the old Mount Victoria station and put down an exceedingly powerful and cleanly-modulated signal, encouraging the belief that it will provide good davlight coverage in Auckland. the auxiliary plant, which forms portion of the main transmitting apparatus, is of five kilowatts output, equal to that of the older 2YA, and is driven, should the power supply fail, by current obtained through a Diesel-powered generator. There has been some conlecture 011 the possibility of the c«*irlN provision of a short-wave transmitter at Titahi Bay, there being much unused room in tho station building.
