BATHER DROWNED

VAIN RESCUE ATTEMPTS BODY LATER RECOVERED , [BT TELEGRAPH —FRESS ASSOCIATION"] INVERCARGILL, Sunday A married man, Mr. Godfrey Baxendale Beissel, aged about 22, of Invercargill, was drowned while bathing in the Waihopai River at Longbusk this afternoon, with three of his brothers-in-law, Messrs. Hector, Malcolm and lan McKcnzic, of Rimu. Mr. Beissel remained longer in the water than tn» others, and twice sank before it * ai realised that anything was amiss. Although he was unable to swim. ' H. McKcnzie went to the rescue. ' was forced to struggle back to the M after three unsuccessful attempts bring Mr. Beissel to the surface.
