PROVINCIAL TOURNEY GOOD STANDARD OF PLAY SOUND BOWLING FIGURES The second clay's play in the Auckland Cricket .Association's provincial tourney was continued at Eden Park on Saturday in fine weather. A light shower at the commencement of the play took most most of the shine off the new ball, but did not affect the wickets, which were easy. Most of the players taking part aro used to mattins wickets, but some sound scores were made. The best score of the day was registered by B. Smith (Auckland B), with 54. The next best scores were: —F. M. Andrews (Auckland B), 42; . Robertshaw (Suburban Association), 42; R. Langden (Suburban Association), 35; C. Wiklman (Suburban Association), 34; C. G., Finlayson (Suburban Association), 32; G. Poole (North Auckland), 30. X. Vipond (North Auckland), returned the best bowling figures, taking five wickets for 2S runs. The second round of the tourney, which will .he continued throughout the week, will be commenced at 10.30 a.m. to-day.

INTERESTING MATCH FIRST INNINGS WIN Chief interest centred in the match between North Auckland and South Auckland on No. 2 wicket. In reply to South Auckland's total of "JOtS, North Auckland had made 1G for the loss of no wickets when stumps were drawn the previous day. W. Dunning and N. Vipond, the not out batsmen, opened to the bowling: of T. Lyon and Going, and Dunning was dismissed before ho had scored. Lyon was getting: a lot of nip off the wicket with the new ball and had the batsmen on the defensive. PI Dunning made some attractive strokes, but the rate of scoring was slow. Going imparted spin to a varied delivery and earned a lot of respect. North Auckland was dismissed for 111. In South Auckland's second innings. Yipond, jvith a ball that came from the off sharply, had the batsmen subdued, while Poole and Fayne, with faster deliveries, kept the rate of scoring down. Dunn scarificcd length for pace and proved expensive. South Auckland declared at 4.15 p.m. and North Auckland required 172 runs in 9(> minutes, to turn a first innings defeat into an outright win. Vipond and W. Dunning opened too cautiously, and did not avail themselves of certain short singles. Disaster came early, but with the advent of P. Dunning and G. Lawrie the play brightened. Badeley was varying both pace and length, and with a wellplaced field the batsmen found him hard to score off. With six wickets down for 00 and half an hour of play South Auckland had prospects of ail outright win. G. Poole, however, who had been playing with confidence, opened out and hit three boundaries in succession. In the last over of the day he took toll of Badeley and lifted him to the embankment for two consecutive sixes. Badeley, however, trapped him with a spinner which went straight up to the bowler. South Auckland gained a win on the first innings. Scores: — '
