POKENO ARREST

MAORI CHARGED IN COURT ACCUSED'S BULLET WOUND Charges of being a rogue and a vagabond, being found in possession of housebreaking implements at Pokeno on December 5, and of breaking and entering the shop of the Farmers' Trading Company at Pokeno on December 5 with intent to commit a crime, were preferred against a Maori, George Frederick Murphy, in the Police Court on Saturdav before Mr. Wyvern Wilson, S.M.

Detective-Sergeant Walsh said accused was the Maori who was wounded in conflict with the police at the time of his arrest. He had been discharged from hospital that morning. He had said he had a complete answer to the charge. A remand until January 14 was granted, bail being refused.
