AMERICAN FORCES INCREASE RECOMMENDED REPORT BY WAR SECRETARY (Received December 21, 7.n0 p.m.) WASHINGTON, Dec. 21 The Secretary for War, Mr. Harry Woodring, in bis annual report, lias recommended a pe'rmanent peace-time army of 165,000 men and 14,000 officers; 210,000 National Guards; 30,000 reserve officers; 50,000 men in citizens' military training camps; and 2320 military aeroplanes. The Army of the United States consists of the Regular Army, of about 118,750 men; the National Guard (volunteer militia) of about 184,700 men; the Officers' Reserve Corps, constituting a war force to meet any major emergency requiring the use of troops in excess of those of the Regular Army and the National Guard; tho Organised Reserves, and the Enlisted Reserve Corps. The citizens' military training camps are established throughout the United States each summer for the training of the youth of the nation. Young men between the ages of 17 and 29 attend these camps and there receive the rudiments of military training, a course of physical development, and instruction in citizenship. The complete course in these camps extends oxer four years, occupying one month each year.
