FATAL EXPLOSION
COUNTY QUAERIES an employee killed BLOWN FROM A ROPE WORKING UPON ROCK FACE [by telegraph —OWN correspondent] THAMES, Monday The premature explosion of a charge of gelignite in a rock face this afternoon resulted in the death of a single man, Mr. Jack Lendich, aged 35 years, who was employed at the Thames County quarries. Mr. Lendich and the quarry foreriian, Mr. Percy Hinton, were putting a charge of explosive in the face. Both mon were suspended by ropes from tiie top, and it is surmised that as Mr. Lendich was tamping the charge home he must have hit it too hard, or else caused a spark from his rammer. He received the force of the explosion, which blew him from his rope, and the resultant fall broke his neck. An inquest will be held.
