SMUGGLING CHARGE
MAN AND WOMAN ARRESTED TOBACCO IN MOTOR-CAR [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION*] CHRISTCHURCH, Saturday Following their arrest in a motor-car parked on tlio outskirts of the Conwav Bridge railway camp, Ramon Brujznon Acourt, aged 28, salesman, and Elizabeth Lilian Campbell, aged 48, domestic, both .of Nelson, appeared in the Police Court charged with smuggling 26ib. of manufactured tobacco and with being knowingly concerned in dealing with manufactured tobacco with intent to defraud the Customs of duties. Accused were remanded until November 27, each being allowed bail in tho sum of £250, with two sureties each of £2OO. They are to report daily to the police, who are to retain custody of the motor-car. Tho police said the accused attempted to prevent a constable searching the car. A quantity of cigarette and pipe tobacco, much of it in tins, was found ill the car.
