HOURS AND CONDITIONS HARMONIOUS AGREEMENT [from our own correspondent] WITANGAItEI, Saturday "I have never presided at a more harmonious and happy conference of representatives of employers and employees to discuss matters affecting wages, hours and general working conditions," said Mr. W. Slaughter, officer in charge of the Labour Department at Auckland, who presided at a meeting held at Portland yesterday between representatives of Wilsons (N.Z.) Portland Cement, Limited, and tho employees of the company. A conference was called to discuss the changed conditions affecting tho cement industry as a result of the recent industrial legislation, and an agreement was reached on all points. The company was represented by Mr. S. Reid, general manager, Mr. T. H. Wilson, works manager, #nd Mr. F. X. Rhodes, assistant-works manager. The employees' representatives were Mr. <T. Windsor, president of the Cement Workers' Union, and Messrs. ,T. Grant, G. Thomson, Holland and Bavliss. Mr. W. E. Anderson, secretary of the Employers' Association, also attended. The agreement provides for a 40hour week, and wages have been restored to the 193] basis. Other conditions have been altered to harmonise with the recent legislation affecting tho industry.
