ROAD METAL PRICES * SHARP INCREASE SHOWN ONE TREE HILL BOROUGH Alarming increases in prices were shown in tenders for materials and lorry hire submitted to the One Tree Hill Borough Council last night. Prices for scoria, which last year ranged from 3s to 4s a yard, according to size, were about Is 6d a yard higher in tenders submitted last nigjvt. "1. would like you to pay particular attention to these prices," said the Mayor, Mr. I. J. Goidstine, to Mr, A. 6. 0»borne, M.P. for Manukau, who was attending the meeting to discuss with members the council's plans for permanent works. Metal values, which last year ranged from 7s 6d to 10s a yard, were quoted in this year's tenders at peices generally about 3s a yard higher. The lowest tender for lorry hire was 6s an hour, against 4s last year, while the only tender for shell was 16s lid a jard, compared with 12s 6d last year and 9s 6d in 1934. The tenders were referred to a special committee/ the Mayor moving that in view of the great increase in prices, the committee should have no power to act, but should report to a special meeting of the council.
